Going Where the Wind Blows

Tyler & I have started a new adventure in our lives together. We are now traveling the U.S.
and Tyler is building wind farms. Wind energy is still very new to Tyler & I and we are constantly learning new things. I did learn today that there is currently enough wind energy installed in the U.S. to power over 1o million homes annually. After talking with the owner of the land that the project Tyler is doing, we also learned that 1 of the larger turbines can power upwards of 300 homes annually. There is a wind farm in Kansas that Tyler & I pass when we are headed to Colorado to visit his family that has hundreds of these larger turbine's; and to think how much electricity that is producing. That is just mind blowing!

I have been reading many different websites and blogs trying to learn as much as I can about wind energy. The short version of how it works is the wind turns the blades, which spin a shaft, which connects to a generator and makes electricity. This website has a great video that explains how wind energy is made and harvested. It goes into more detail than I can give.

Below is a picture of the Tehachapi Pass/Mojave Desert, California . This is the area Tyler has been working.

I am also doing this blog so that our friends and family can follow all the things we are doing and seeing in the different parts of the country that the wind takes us. I have been in California for 1 week yesterday and we have already seen sooooo much. I can't wait to post about all of it!
